What is TagSaleMaps.com?
TagSaleMaps.com is an information hub for bargain hunters. It is a virtual bulletin board for posting/searching tag sales, yard sales, garage sales, rummage sales, flea markets, etc. on a map and in real time. There are many different websites and newspapers, etc. that advertise sales, but they have only limited information available. This website was created out of our own frustration over trying to find the sales that we had seen advertised, but couldn’t find. We asked ourselves, “Why can’t there just be a MAP with all of the sales posted on it?” So we decided to create this website to help others do what we love to do . . . find tag sales!
Other websites offer the same service for free, why pay $10 to post here?
It is true that there are other websites out there that offer a similar service free of charge. The difference is that many of these other websites don’t function properly, if at all. Many of them don’t post the sales in real time, so there may still be sales posted long after the sale is over. The free sites have no paying customers, so they have no budget for advertising and no incentive to make things work properly. We have invested a great deal of time and money to ensure the proper functionality of our website. We have also launched an advertising campaign to get the word out about our site. The cost is very reasonable, especially if you consider that you can potentially make hundreds of dollars at your tag sale.
The more bargain hunters that can find your sale, the more money you can potentially make. In our area it costs $40 to run a simple text ad in the local newspapers. It costs much less to advertise on our site, and having the sales posted in real time on a map just makes sense.
I entered my zip code and got a message “No record found”, what does that mean?
“No record found” means that there are no sales currently posted in your search area. Try expanding your search area to see if there are any sales posted just outside the radius that you first entered. Keep in mind that our website is brand new and not everyone has heard about us yet. Send an email to all your friends and family and tell them about our website. When you go out to tag sales tell the folks who are having the sales to check us out, maybe they will post their next sale on our website. We are doing our best to get the word out, but it’s the bargain hunters like you that can really help spread the word. If everyone would use our website to post and search tag sales, the bargain hunters would find more of the sales they seek and the sellers would have more successful sales.
When is the best time to have a Garage Sale?
Saturday is by far the most popular day for tag sales, followed by Friday and then Sunday. Holidays are not always good days to host a sale because many people are busy doing family things and don’t have time to go out to tag sales. Most bargain hunters are out and about bright and early, so opening your sale at 8am or 9am is ideal. We generally make most of our money from sales before noon on Saturday. If you do not want any early birds, we suggest NOT putting a sign at the end of your street until you are ready to open.
How long will my sale stay posted?
All posted sales are automatically deleted as of midnight on the last day of the sale. Sales cannot be posted more than five days in advance of the start date. The tags are color coded according to the days of the week that the sale is actually happening. This feature makes it easy to map out your route on different days. Too many people put up signs before their sales and then just leave them there forever afterward. It becomes confusing and extremely annoying for those of us trying to find sales when we follow old, outdated signs to nowhere!
Can you give me some tips to help me make good signs for my sale?
When you make your signs be sure to write the DATE (month/day) and the TIME (start-end) of the sale, to avoid any confusion. Be sure to use BIG BLOCK letters that have good contrast with the background color of the sign. Remember that people driving by your signs will probably not be able to stop to read about your sale. Keep it simple and easy to read with only the important information, and preferably a directional arrow pointing toward your sale location. If you also include the DISTANCE to your sale, this information can be very helpful. Of course, anyone in your area using this website won’t even need to read your signs because they will already know exactly when and where to find your sale!
Should I put price tags on my items or just let people make offers?
Pricing all your sale items ahead of time is one of the best things you can do to boost your sales. Many people will not ask for a price because they are shy and/or they do not want to be put on the spot to make a quick decision. They may just walk away because they assume that you want more for an item than they are willing to pay. On the flip side, you may be busy and give a quick price without much thought and either under or over-price your item. If you have everything priced already it makes it easier for everyone.
